'Earl Grey'

According to folklore, the tea was created as a gift of gratitude to Charles Grey, the 2nd Earl Grey, whilst traveling in China. Infused with bergamot, a citrus fruit, to mask the taste of the water, which was often of poor quality. The Earl was so taken by the tea's unique aroma that he asked for it to be made just for him. As the years passed, this special blend became known as "Earl Grey".

The colour Gray (originally “Grey” in British English) was first recorded in English in 700 BCE. Grey was later used as a verb meaning “to age.”
